Research. The Turtle Hospital and the University of Georgia College of Vet Medicine have been doing cooperative research into the causes of fibropapilloma, the devastating viral tumors which affect sea turtles. This is currently the only known disease affecting wild animals on a global basis. Abstract. Six species of marine turtle from two families have been recorded foraging within the waters of Moreton Bay. Of those species, two (green turtle, Chelonia mydas and loggerhead turtle, Caretta caretta) are resident in substantial foraging populations that contribute annually to nesting populations of their southern Great Barrier Reef and South Pacific Ocean genetic stocks, respectively.

She helped with sea turtle tracking and net-capture projects and also mapped sea grass and algae foraging habitat while SCUBA diving in Ojo de Liebre, Magdalena Bay, Punta Abreojos, Laguna San Ignacio, and Isla Espiritu Santos. She published an article in Spanish in a local La Paz newspaper on previous UABCS Marine Lab research. For those wishing to learn more, the site contains a Marine Turtle Fibropapilloma Bibliography that was compiled by members of the U.S. National Marine Fisheries Service. The site is rounded out by a section for kids; a glossary; and profiles of a number of marine turtles including the loggerhead, leatherback, hawksbill, Kemp's ridley, Atlantic.
